Submitting Quizzes

The class quizzes are taken using an automatic quiz system in Blackboard. They open for approximately two weeks andand close on specific dates given in the quiz description. All quizzes post scores automatically and scores are in your grades when you press the "Submit" button.

You may submit the quiz only once, but you can save individual answers to questions, and return to the quiz later. The "Save" button is to the right of each question.

Don't open the quiz until you are familiar with the chapter(s), and have the time to do the research with your book open. Once you open the quiz, all the questions will be displayed at once.

Do not ask to retake a quiz if you accidently press the "Submit" button early.

You may save your answers as you work, however, so if your computer freezes up, or something else goes awry, you'll still have those questions toward your score.

You can review your results with the correct answers after pressing the "Submit" button.

Submitting Written Work

When you submit written work for this class please observe the following guidelines:

  • NEVER attach a Word .doc or .docx or other text file as a Discussion submission! Many users have to download Word files to read them, and it is not available for immediate viewing. Plus, students are advised not to download attachments due to the presence of all sorts of viruses that can attack your computer.

ALWAYS cut and paste, and then attach your images!

  • Create the work in a word processing software on your home computer. Do not compose reports while in the Discussion Forum--this is for your own safety. If the Blackboard system locks up, or the system logs you out, at least you still have it safely on your computer.
  • Do not add images into your Word document! They will not copy over to the Forums! Attach the images when you submit in the Discussion Forum, or put them in with the UBBC code after you cut and paste the text. Again, you cannot cut and paste a Word document that has images in it! If you can't work the UBBC code, then attach the images to replies you make to your written work. Images and links are very important for your points.
  • You CAN copy and paste html into your written assignment, and it is possible to put images in your text this way. The images must be located on the web for this to work--images stored on your computer will not show up. Photobucket.com is one site that can host images for you that you've saved on your computer.
  • Make sure your name is at the top of each assignment as the first line of your writing.
  • Always save a copy for yourself.

Always save a copy of all work submitted. If your work is lost for any reason, your instructor may ask you to send another copy from your archive of saved work. Even after the close of the semester, this has saved some students major grief.

  • To submit your work, please use the Discussion Board's appropriate forum.

Do not e-mail written reports to your instructor or put them in the Digital Drop Box. The correct way to submit is to post it on the class Discussion Board by starting a new thread under the topic that relates to the assignment. This allows your peers to see and react to your opnions, which is a major part of this course.

All of the discussion areas are available from the first day of the course. You can submit work early into these forums.

  • Want to add an image?

If you want to include an image with any assignment, you can add a single image as an "attachment" to any post on the Discussion Board. You can add additional posts to your thread for additional images. If you're good with UBBC code or HTML, you can post the images inside the document with the new Blackboard. There is a practice forum (called "The Sand Box") on the Discussion board to use while you are learning.

Scheduling your Work

If you wish, you can submit work early, and you can submit quizzes whenever they are open.

You can submit work early in the Discussion Board's appropriate topic area. (Always a good idea to work ahead and keep those files on your computer!)

You can read ahead and do the quizzes ahead of the weeks in which they are assigned, as long as the quizzes are visible under the Quizzes button.

It may take a while before your total points show up, as working ahead doesn't mean your instructor is working ahead!

Late Work

Work submitted after the week in which it is presented will earn lower points. The further into the course from the week it was presented, the less points. The "Due Date" to receive maximum points is Sunday night at midnight. Work posted after the end of the semester will not be accepted, period. The end of the semester is defined as midnight on the day before Finals. Finals Week is NOT the time to turn in assignments. College courses are a lot tougher than high school. Adjust, please.

Practice Forum ("The Sand Box") on the Discussion Board

Your instructor has placed a forum on the Discussion Board purely for your learning and practice. In this forum, you can anonymously practice uploading text from word processed documents, images from your computer, your digital camera files, or connect to site images on the Web. This forum is not where you get answers on how to do it, it is for your practice. You can delete the practice messages as well as post anonymously. This forum will move to the bottom of the list after two weeks, but it will still be available if you need a place to practice new skills.
