The textbook for this class is required, buy it immediately and get it in your hands as quickly as possible. The title is "Prebles' Artforms" (9th Edition) by Patrick Frank, Duane Preble and Sarah Preble. You can use the links below to order the book at Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com, or you can purchase it at other online vendors or the MSJC Campus Bookstores. You can also buy the Eighth edition, although some of the chapter names and numbering may be different.

Those wanting to save money, I highly recommend craigslist.org where former Art 100 students often sell their books. You can get the book almost immediately and support another MSJC student! (Link below.)

2. Write down the course email addresses for your instructor, and use it if you need to chat before the course begins.

Please put your section number and your name somewhere in the email. You can send from any email account, but know that the college requires you to use your student email for official communication. I need your name and section so I can solve problems faster for you.

If you use the MSJC instructor email (ppendleton@msjc.edu ) there is a good chance that your email will be lost in the administrative and internal emails that the college generates. And they keep changing passwords without warning, so sometimes I lose contact with the college for up to a week--email only. Best to use the emails above.

3. Check your MSJC email.

Your instructor might be sending out good information before the course opens. It happens!

4. Post an introduction in the Discussion Board.

Visit the class Discussion Board (in the list on the left side while you are in the Art 100 area) and post a paragraph about yourself. Please state that you have taken the policies and procedures quiz, and mention anything you would like other class members to know, perhaps including comments about your educational goals, your job and family, why you're taking the course, and anything else of interest. These posts generally set the tone of the class--some classes are really chatty, others are very business-like.

IMPORTANT: You must post an introduction within TWO DAYS after the beginning date of the semester or you will be dropped from the class. NO EXCEPTIONS!

This is a very popular course and many students are already on a waitlist to take your place!

5. Review and Learn About the Art 100 Site.

Read through all the information listed under the buttons labeled Course Information, Course Documents and Coursework (Links in the sidebar [left side] of the course's home page). Allow up to an hour for reading. Go to the Lectures button on the left and listen to the instructor's welcome message under "Orientation" in the lectures list.

6. Take the Practice Quiz and the Orientation Quiz (Orientation Quiz is required).
